Susan Joy Hoover & Sekolah Alkitab Celebration

Through our friends at SIB Grace, we got connected to a feisty young lady, Susan Joy Hoover, who runs a Bible school — Sekolah Alkitab Celebration (SAC) — in Medan, Indonesia.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Susan first came to Indonesia as a 20-year-old missionary with Peter Youngren's World Impact Ministries.

What she had thought would be a short stint has grown long-term as Susan marks her 9th year in Indonesia. Hearing her speak and preach in fluent Bahasa, you'd be forgiven if you mistook her for a purebred Indonesian.

Besides speaking before tens of thousands in mass evangelistic rallies, Susan felt called to start a Bible school, under Celebration Bible College, that would multiply the work by equipping local Indonesians to reach their own country for Jesus. So in October 2008, SAC started with 15 students. It has since grown to include classes for second-year students as well as night classes for part-time students.

Susan spoke at The New Covenant Church in December 2010 on "Just Jesus". In April 2011, we had the privilege of visiting SAC, when our SIB Grace friends were teaching there, to gain a better understanding of the work and ministry there. Susan was very generous in sharing their resources — manuals, CDs, DVDs etc — so that we could use them for our own Indonesian fellowship. We look forward to more partnership with Susan and SAC in the near future.
